Project Overview

Ubioo offers consulting in product development and scientific communication to businesses in the Biotech, Agritech and Foodtech spaces. Key objectives included growing brand awareness and understanding how they could effectively transfer scientific knowledge into practical industry solutions. They also needed to optimise their website so they could be found by future clients and have a presentable space for thought leadership content to live.

The Problem

Ubioo's simple website was not fully optimised for discovery via search engines, meaning that people searching for their services would not be able to find their website. Additionally, some important elements were missing for compliance with GDPR regulations such as a Policy Page and Cookies Banner. 

The search engine results page (SERP) for Ubioo's brand name also had very few rich results and little social proof to reassure potential clients searching for the business during pitches and presentations.

The Solution

During an initial consultancy with me, Ubioo outlined their key pain points and desired outcomes. I then reversed-engineered a two-pronged approach to address this within a timeframe and budget that was appropriate for Ubioo.

Part 1: Website audit and improvements

Audit: The first step to understanding where improvements could be made was a full audit of the website. This identified some on-page and technical improvements that could quickly be made to help search engines understand the website better.

Basic keyword research: Although a full-scale keyword universe was not requested in this case, it was essential to understand how people searched for Ubioo's services in search engines like Google.

GDPR Compliance: Privacy policy, cookies policy and terms and conditions pages were added, as well as a cookie consent banner, to ensure that the website was compliant with EU law.

On-page improvements: Based on my many years of experience in B2B marketing, I also made some improvements to elements of website pages such as layout, social proof (through highlighting partner logos and creating case study pages) and bugs that impacted user experience (UX).  

Analytics and website report: Event tracking and critical analytics tools - Google Analytics 4 and Google Search Console - were set up. Additionally I provided Ubioo with a top-line website report on Looker Studio (formerly Google Data Studio), so they could view the metrics and site KPI's that were most critical to them.

Part 2: State of the Industry Survey

The initial consultation with a business is always a great time to learn about their position in the market and what assets they have (e.g. partnerships or contacts). I concluded that Ubioo's good relationship with a vast number of industry contacts could be leveraged to run a state of the industry survey and from this gain valuable insights about their target audience. 

Part 1 - Survey creation: I advised Ubioo on the best survey tool for their needs and also provided guidance on demographics they should collect, survey length and question formats to maximise completion rate.

Part 2 - Collecting responses: Together we came up with a strategy for collecting responses, including writing persuasive copy to generate responses via LinkedIn posts.
